24 Jun Don’t Burn Out On Your Business: The Benefits of Taking a Step Back and Pushing the Reset Button
Today, I want to say a few words about burnout and how to prevent it.
In modern society, even more so online, there’s plenty of talk about success and what it takes to get there. And I feel like many people are putting a lot of pressure on themselves.
Pushing yourself to be better isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But if you’re constantly working your butt off and giving it all you’ve got, you may find yourself on a path to burnout. And that path is a slippery slope, my friends.
Here’s why I’m telling you all this. It’s normal to want to take a break. And if you’ve got that hustle mindset, chances are you’re going to feel guilty about it.
And if that’s you reading this right now – stop it! Cut yourself some slack!
The reason why I’m telling you all of this is because it’s something I’ve been dealing with myself recently. Even after everything I’ve achieved, being OK with pressing pause and taking a step back is something I really struggle with.
So for this episode, I’m going to share my thoughts on preventing burnout and the value of pushing the reset button from time to time.
I hope this helps!
Are You Struggling With Productivity Guilt?
It’s been a pretty intense year and a half, but things seem to be getting better. We’re starting to go outside more, people are getting vaccinated, and things are getting closer to normal.
And the weather is getting really nice, too!
As a result, I’m not enthusiastic about staying indoors and working all day.
But here’s the problem, though. I have this voice inside my head that frequently pops up when I’m not working.
And it’s pushing me, demanding I do more. “Did you know you could be working? Why aren’t you working? You really should be working!”
Do you have that feeling? I’m sure I’m not the only one dealing with this.
Now, I’m not going to lie. When I look back at my career, being able to force myself into productivity has been helpful. But it’s starting to become quite a nuisance.
If you’re going at it hard and have been doing so for a very long time, this kind of thinking can disrupt your work-life balance, take the fun out of the journey, and lead to burnout.
So even if productivity guilt is making you push yourself more and work harder, it’s never healthy.
How Does Taking a Break From Your Business Helping You Grow it?
It sounds a bit contradictory, doesn’t it? But it’s really true!
Taking breaks and resting is essential to preserving and improving your mental health. However, there are other reasons these “resets” help your business directly.
In my experience, stepping back occasionally to reset has always had tremendous benefits for my business.
Here’s something that’s happened to me pretty recently. I was dealing with this complex issue, and I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. It was both physically and psychologically draining.
So, against my instincts, I decided to take a step back and take a break for a couple of days.
When I got back to it days later, I could approach it with a clean slate. I was refreshed, energized and immediately saw what the problem was. Boom – knocked it out in a day!
Sometimes, approaching the same issue with a clearer head is all you need to overcome it.
Remember – You’ve Got to Enjoy the Ride
Being driven to become successful and achieve your business goals is important. But it also isn’t enough.
You also need to love the process!
Dreaming about success wasn’t the thing that got me through countless late nights, weekends, and holidays I’ve had to work through during my career. It was difficult, it was messy, but I loved it so much. And I still do!
My work challenged me and inspired me to grow into the person and the entrepreneur I am today. I’m no quitter, but I’m also 100% sure that I wouldn’t be here today if I didn’t love every step of the way to here.
So if you’re reading this and are currently working hard but not enjoying the journey, ask yourself this.
Is it really worth doing?

- Wholly Cow!!! Eric Is The Real Deal!!by Supreme Dragon Slayer 69 from United States
Seriously.. Affiliate Marketing has been around for a LONG time.. However, it’s always been associated with scams, and fly by night marketing tactics that are shady l, illegal or unethical at best. Until now. Eric runs his entire business (which is ultra successful btw) the same way he runs his life.. On pure integrity. Finally, a podcast that is teaching Affiliate Marketing based on being.. Ethical and Transparent. But the best part? This podcast is soooo much more than just Affiliate Marketing.. it’s about running a successful business and successful life. So far Episode 3 is my favorite and I look fwd to each episode as soon as it comes out. Highly recommend this to anyone, regardless of where they are in their business!! Straight Gold Beb!

We're marketers. Right? Where we're helping people sure it's meaningful, there's no question about it, right? If you're helping somebody with a problem... So maybe somebody has a drug problem, or a relationship problem, or a weight loss problem, whatever that is, you're making an impact. You're changing lives. But that should not come at the expense of your own life. You need to make sure that you enjoy the ride, you enjoy what you're doing. And you take full advantage of all the hard work you put in, and the freedom that it's allowing you.
I spent the last 17 years building my eight-figure performance business without using any of my own money, working with some of the most brilliant direct response marketers in the world today. Now, I'm looking for entrepreneurs to join my affiliate on built on ethics, transparency, and good old hard work. Join me to change the perception of how people view the greatest business in the world, affiliate marketing, and follow along, as I learn, apply, and share performance marketing strategies, working with some of the brightest people on the planet. My name is Eric Beer, and welcome to the Performance Marketer Podcast.
What's up, guys? Eric Beer here. And today, I just want to talk to you about getting burnt out on your business. I think a lot of people put a lot of pressure on themselves. And sometimes it's better to just take a step back and do nothing. Walk away from the business. You work your butt off all the time, right? You strive for greatness, you have goals. But sometimes, man, it's just you need to take a reset. I think it's really important people understand, especially during this time, you know, for me, too, I've been in my house with COVID for like a year and a half, right? And all of a sudden, we're slowly getting out of this whole COVID scare. Right? I've been vaccinated, a lot of people have been vaccinated. Now they're letting kids get vaccinated, like both of my kids have gotten their first shot, and they're about to get their second, right? So like for the first time in almost like a year and a half. The world's almost normal. Right? Like sometimes I'm walking into stores, and I'm not sure if I need to wear a mask or not like CDC says you don't. But there's still this like, uncertainty of do I wear masks? Do I not wear a mask? What's the deal there? The point is, is that like, I haven't been outside, I haven't gone out to like an event or played around too much. And the weather's getting nice. And there's been times where I just I'm like I don't want to sit inside and work all day. And I feel guilty about it sometimes. Like I actually like struggle with, "Oh man force yourself to work... You should be working, you should be working..." And then there's no side of me that thinks about it as "Man, you've been working hard for a long time." You need to enjoy the journey, you need to enjoy the process. You start a business, you have your goals of what you want to achieve, right? Whether it's just the financial aspect, or the delivery and the result that you're getting from what you do for both, right, which is, which is great. But like, we get so caught up in our businesses, that we lose sight of things, we lose sight and just enjoying the ride, because there's stress that's involved, right and the uncertainty and then people get nervous, especially in the beginning when you're trying to like make the business work and not sure if it's gonna work, maybe you have to put some sort of investment out of your pocket that's, you know, stress in itself or maybe take money from somebody else. And now they're putting pressure on you. So there's the stress that you have, you may not have your own financial risk, but you have your risk of what you're doing. And you're dealing with, you know, other people's money that they're risking. So they're going to get on you pretty hard, right? And like, the point is, is that it's okay to just take a step back and relax, you'll be better for it. As a matter of fact, sometimes you need to just like get out of it for a little bit. Now I'm not saying you like just stop working and throw it away. Like you have to be responsible, right? Like the there's a balance to it, right the work-life balance, but it's okay to enjoy yourself. It's okay to take some days off, spend some time with your family. Go have fun with whatever you like to do outside, right. If you like to play golf, or tennis, which is what I like to do. I like to spend time with my family. I like to do things with my family. I just think it's important because I can't imagine on my own I feel this way because I know I get this huge guilt. It's like a cloud over my head sometimes when I'm doing it. And I'm like, I have to rationalize to myself but it's okay. Right. You've worked your butt off for a really long time. Enjoy yourself a little bit. Life is short yet one shot at this, right? A friend of mine, who I used to work with, and I became friends I knew his family from when I was young, my dad grew up his father, and he passed away at 5353. from cancer, right? Just boom, my mom passed away at 54. I mean, I'm 45, it's nine years from now. So like, what am I going to do just not have fun, so that I can have fun later in life? What happens if I don't make it to later? What happens? if, you know, I'm nine years left? Knock on my head? I like to be around a lot longer than that. But I'm just saying, like, when you put those things into perspective, a little bit, it changes things, right? It puts things into priority, you set your priorities straight, right? We treat our businesses like, we're neurosurgeons going in, we're doing brain surgery on somebody, right? And, you know, we're marketers, right? We're, we're helping people, sure it's meaningful, there's no question about it, right? If you're helping somebody with a problem, so maybe somebody has a drug problem, or a relationship problem, or a weight loss problem, whatever that is, you're making an impact, you're changing lives. But that should not come at the expense of your own life, you need to make sure that you enjoy the ride, you enjoy what you're doing. And you take full advantage of all the hard work you put in, and the freedom that it's allowing you. And don't feel guilty about it live in the moment. And then what I've seen for me personally, is I come back more energized. And it also helps me with kind of taking a step out of the business for a little bit. Right? Like you get so deep into your business that like, you're just - one-track mind. And then when you get away from it for a sec, and you start thinking about all the different things, you know, it just, it just comes where you're at a different mindset. And all of a sudden, you start thinking about other things, maybe something... This has happened to me, like I was working on something that was like, super complicated, diving in, and like just working real hard at it, you know, and took a step back, and then finish it, step back. And then when I started looking at it, it was just so simple to me. And I looked at what I was doing, and I was like, I don't need any of that stuff. I'm getting like, way too detailed. Boom, boom, boom, there's three things. Right? It's like, in businesses, when I'm trying to build it's like, Alright, well give yourselves, you have your operations. And then you have your analytics, your optimization, and then repeat. Right? go sell something, go execute on it, and then go watch what happens. If it's good, keep doing it. If it didn't work, why didn't it work? What else can I do? What can I change? Identify where did it work, and then tweak it and do it again, and retest. Right? So it's like, I'm just saying, guys, like, it's healthy for you to enjoy your life, you know, that's why we're working our butts off. Especially as you get older, you're your family. Again, if you're in your 20s, you're trying to make it, alright, fine, you know, put your time in, but still, you enjoy it. But like, you got to have a good balance there. But I'm saying like people that are like, you know, been working their tail off for 15, 20, 25 years, you know, try to appreciate what you've done, and try to find a way to enjoy it. So just wanted to put that out there. Because I know like, I've been struggling with that a little bit. And, you know, had a little guilt and I had to kind of like, talk to myself about it and tell myself what I'm telling you guys. So I just wanted to come out and kind of just give you my thoughts on what I'm thinking. If anybody's in a similar situation, maybe this is helpful for you. If you have something similar that you've gone through, I'd love to hear about it. You know, comment, let me know, reach out to me, text me now, 917-636-1998. And I'd love to hear about it. It's always nice to relate to people that are going through similar things in life. Right? But so that's kind of where I'm at a little bit. Right? And it's a good thing. It's a good thing. So yeah, with that said, that was my brain dump for today. Hope I made an impact on somebody's life for what I'm going through. And with that said, you know, get out there, have fun, stay healthy. Enjoy the warm weather. And I will see you on the next one. Thanks for... Thanks for being here. All right, take care guys. Later!
