11 Aug Affiliate Marketing: Beginners’ FAQs Answered
Luckily, you don’t have to earn a Harvard degree to be an affiliate marketer.
Some of the best affiliate marketers I’ve known were street savvy, hustlers, and socially skilled. And they were all once like you – a beginner!
If this is your first time here, I’ve been doing an affiliate marketing series for the past few weeks. Today’s episode wraps up what every beginner affiliate marketer should know.
So, I’ve compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions about affiliate marketing that you guys have sent to me.
And if you know me by now, I only give honest answers to your questions.
Whether you already know what affiliate marketing is or are a complete newbie, make sure to tune in to today’s episode. You don’t want to miss this one!
Let’s dive right in!
Becoming an Affiliate Marketer: Is it Easy?
If you think becoming an affiliate marketer needs a ton of experience or a Harvard degree under your name, well, you got it all wrong.
This is a hustle business!
The skill needed to excel in this kind of business can be taught, and it doesn’t mean that the smartest people in the world will be good at affiliate marketing.
For you to get started, simply find somebody willing to run your offer (go check out our previous episode on How to Run a Successful Marketing Business).
What I mean by that is that you find publishers or your Dream 100 with a list of people or audiences interested in purchasing whatever product/service you’re promoting.
You can also work with this publisher to find influencers looking to monetize their audience. Now, you’re creating a relationship with that publisher.
Once those target audiences purchase through your link, the influencer makes money, the publisher makes money, you make money, and the advertiser, too.
Whatever your deal is with your publisher, explain it to them – black and white – and if they’re willing to do it for an agreed percentage, great. You got a business!
Is it easy?
That’s an interesting question. But listen, you don’t have to be the smartest person in this game.
The skill set you need to make a killing in this business can be taught. You have to be willing to create relationships, speak with people, work hard, and hustle harder.
Doing it Full-Time
One of the best things about affiliate marketing is that you can do it whenever, wherever. If you have a 9-5 job, you can do this on the side, say, from 8-12.
And let me tell you, some people are making $300, $3,000, $10,000, or $50,000 a day. This is how I started my company.
I was an affiliate for a few offers, and I got paid a commission when I was able to drive a sale. Luckily, I had built relationships with publishers that have audiences.
So immediately, I can turn around, find an offer, make a match, and get a deal. Then I give it to my publishers, who will promote it.
You don’t necessarily have to build a publisher relationship before you can get into affiliate marketing. Instead, you can create your Dream 100 – they can be a TikTok guy, ESPN, or anyone with an audience through earned media.
Earned media is free compared to paid media, where you buy clicks on Facebook, and it is free because you take your time to build up an audience by earning their trust.
Whether you find a publisher who runs paid media to promote your offer or make a deal with an influencer who has built an audience over time, you can transition to working on your affiliate marketing business full-time.
Affiliate Marketing Numbers
And now we’re onto the most exciting part – the money!
Many of you have asked…
How do affiliates get paid?
How much can a beginner make in affiliate marketing?
Okay, easy, boy. I’m going to answer those questions in a bit.
How Do Affiliates Get Paid?
So, the first question is, how do affiliates get paid? Okay, so the business pays the affiliate commission, and they pay whoever has the relationship with the advertiser/company that they’re getting the sale from.
Let’s take ClickFunnels as an example.
If you’re promoting their offer, ClickFunnels will pay you when you get a sale – whether you’re selling the offer directly to your audience or giving somebody else your affiliate link, and they’re getting the sale for you.
Now, if you have a deal with some other companies that you’re going to pay them when they get that sale, that’s a different relationship that has nothing to do with ClickFunnels, and that has to do with you.
Whatever cut or deal you’ve agreed with your publisher/influencer, ClickFunnels doesn’t care.
If you’re an affiliate looking for third-party publishers to run your offers, I recommend you structure the deal that you pay on collected revenue.
What is a Collected Revenue?
Collected revenue means that whenever ClickFunnels pays you, you pay whatever you collect to that publisher.
Some publishers may say that if that’s the case, they’re better off signing up directly with ClickFunnels. Yes, people do that all the time.
Well, here’s how you’d respond to them:
Maybe you have a better relationship with ClickFunnels and get a better deal than everybody else. Typically, the more volume you drive for advertisers, the more you can get on their radar, so they’re willing to give you a better deal.
And when you get a better deal from ClickFunnels, you can pay a better amount to your publisher.
How Much Can a Beginner Make?
Well, here’s the thing. The honest answer is UNLIMITED!
Your advertisers don’t care if you’re a 22-year-old college dropout or a 51-year-old father. It doesn’t matter.
But realistically speaking, I’ll put a number of like $1,000 to $10,000 a month. It all comes down to how much time and energy you put into this business and what offers you are promoting.

- Wholly Cow!!! Eric Is The Real Deal!!by Supreme Dragon Slayer 69 from United States
Seriously.. Affiliate Marketing has been around for a LONG time.. However, it’s always been associated with scams, and fly by night marketing tactics that are shady l, illegal or unethical at best. Until now. Eric runs his entire business (which is ultra successful btw) the same way he runs his life.. On pure integrity. Finally, a podcast that is teaching Affiliate Marketing based on being.. Ethical and Transparent. But the best part? This podcast is soooo much more than just Affiliate Marketing.. it’s about running a successful business and successful life. So far Episode 3 is my favorite and I look fwd to each episode as soon as it comes out. Highly recommend this to anyone, regardless of where they are in their business!! Straight Gold Beb!

You don't have to go to Harvard to be an affiliate marketer. Some of the best affiliate marketers are those street-savvy, charming people. It's hustle, right? You need to have a skill set which can be taught. You can learn how to do this - the smartest people in the world are not necessarily going to be good at affiliate marketing. There's a certain type of person that's good at affiliate marketing, right? You gotta, you gotta be able to have relationships and speak to people.
I spent the last 17 years building my eight-figure performance business without using any of my own money, working with some of the most brilliant direct response marketers in the world today. Now I’m looking for entrepreneurs to join my affiliate army built on ethics, transparency, and good old hard work. Join me to change the perception of how people view the greatest business in the world, affiliate marketing, and follow along as I learn, apply, and share performance marketing strategies, working with some of the brightest people on the planet. My name is Eric Beer, and welcome to the Performance Marketer podcast.
There’s ways you can do it. There's ways you can do this on the side, right? Think about it like it's, it's, a hustle business. You just got to find publishers, got to find people that are willing to run offers for you. And that's what I mean if you found somebody that was willing to run an offer for you, and you're making them money, well then try to figure out what else they want to run. What else is valuable to them? And then we'll get that deal. You already have the publisher list of traffic, right? Maybe that publisher who's driving signups for clicks funnels, has now people that are entrepreneurs that have their own business that can use funnel software, right? Like, what else would that person be interested in? Right? Either you can think about it or talk to your publisher, now they're starting to create a relationship. You're working with them, you guys are working together right now. And you guys have the same goals, you're looking for a deal, this guy, Joe over here, doesn't have the time to go to the deal. And you're working with Joe to help him find an offer that will monetize his audience. So right now, you go, and you look for it. And then he's wanting to test it, we already talked to him about it, you're already paying him. Right. And a lot of the times, what happens is they want to work with only like a few people instead of like 1000s of people. I'll say advertisers certainly don't want to be working with, you know, 100 different affiliates. That's why they'll hire like a company like mine to go out and, and find all those affiliates find the partners to run traffic for them because they don't want to pay and deal with all the nonsense. There's a lot that goes into it, right? You got to pay 100 people a month, that's running one-off, right back and forth invoices, contracts to getting them the assets, getting them their links, you know, getting them to push, it's a lot, it's, it's a whole, it's a whole to do when you scale it, and they're willing to give up to do that. They're gonna say, hey, I'll give you the HD record if you can get me this many signups per month. Now, they don't just give that to you, you got to earn it, or you got to show that you can drive the volume that they're looking for. But if you do, it's awesome. If you don't, and how do you get traffic to an offer that people already know about? Right?
You go and promote ClickFunnels and people are like, why would I take ClickFunnels from you? I can go to ClickFunnels and getting myself, which is absolutely right, right? Well, there's a number of reasons you can do that. One, maybe you have a relationship with ClickFunnels, and you get a better deal than somebody else because you're driving traffic for them in some volume. Typically, the more volume you drive for advertisers, you can want to get on their radar, and to they're willing to give you a better deal, right? If something's working because they want you to promote it more. So they're willing to go deeper with you and give you some edge to be able to go out and get more traffic than most. Right. And some might say that's not fair. But guess what, if you have one partner who's.. who's getting you 1000 new customers a month, and then you have this other guy who's hasn't got anything for you, but you want to reward the guy that's getting you 1000 customers, you want to keep doing it, right? You wanna, you want to make more money, you wanted to stay with you, he's driving results for that company, where you're new. You gotta prove out that you can do it. So you do it. Right. And if you know that you can get a higher payout later, then you do it, and then you have a conversation, hey, listen, I'm getting you some signups, but it's not as profitable as it should be for me. I'm not gonna want to continue doing this. I know that there's a higher payout I wanted to show you that I can get you new customers have done that. Now it's tough conversation, to get to where I really need it, and then I can get you way more customers. And if it's profitable for me, it's a win-win for me, then I'll do it. Right. It's... it always comes back to the same thing. Everybody needs to win. The advertiser needs to win, the affiliate needs to win, the publisher needs to win, and the customer needs to win, right? And that scenario, all four people need to win for it to be sustainable. If one of those people aren't winning, the deal is not going to work. It's kind of just gonna end, it's gonna end, and quickly. I thought it was really important to come on here and tell you guys about this, right? There's some questions that they're asking. So how do I become an affiliate marketer? There's a lot of ways you could become an affiliate marketer. One, you can build up your own audiences. So you can do it with trying to build up an audience on Facebook group, Instagram, Snapchat, Tiktok, you name it. You have an audience of people, you can be an affiliate for somebody. You can go that route. That's what you want to do. You know, start a blog, start writing content, people start following you and reading your blogs, then you could be an affiliate, build an online community. Many, many, many ways. You could take all those things I just described and find them. You can be an affiliate of an advertiser who doesn't have a blog, or an online community, or a list or anything. Right?
You're coming, and you're getting that offer. And then you're going in finding these online communities. It's people that have email lists, these people that have a blog with traffic, you're buying all kinds of different media, and you're trying to do a deal on a performance basis. That's the simplest way to do it. Where whatever the deal is, on your side, you're going to give a percentage of whatever you make, and there's a sale to that publisher, explain it to them, if they're willing to do it, great. And you got a business. Start creating cash flow, the better you do the, you know, the more cash flow that comes in and creates freedom. If you're working for somebody, and you want to do that, thinking in your head, what do you need to make for you to be able to go full time if you can make some money doing it for a few hours a week? Think about it, if you make 60 grand? What is a $5,000 a month? Gross? So can you make five grand a month. How much is that if you work on one offer? And you break it out how much we make per day. Frankly, if you get, you know, a good deal running, you can get that much on one on one sale a day, for some of these bigger, you know, more valuable deals. With that said, you gotta get if it's… if it's a higher cost, that's going to pay out a higher commission, well, then, the more you're asking somebody to commit from a customer's perspective, the warmer they need to be, the more they need to know about that offer the value and willing to take their credit card out and spend $1000 $5,000, right? Unless they're a hot lead, right, we talked about cold, warm, and hot, then you're gonna have to work them, nurture them a lot more. Right? So you got to figure out what deals you're promoting, and how you're going to get that person from a click of a ad to a customer. Right? So sometimes it's better when you take like these lead gen deals, and you go and you as an affiliate, you'll get an offer where someone wants to buy a lead, to take their link and start promoting it. You're getting people to sign up for the lead, you're getting paid. You're creating cash flow for yourself, you know, those are the ways to do it.
Is affiliate marketing easy? Interesting question. Is affiliate marketing easy? Yes or No. Listen, you don't have to go to Harvard to be an affiliate marketer. Some of the best affiliate marketers are those street-savvy, charming people. It's hustle, right? You need to have a skill set, which can be taught, you can learn how to do this. The smartest people in the world are not necessarily going to be good at affiliate marketing. There's a certain type of person that's good at affiliate marketing, right?
You gotta, you gotta be able to have relationships and speak to people. You got to be willing to work hard and hustle. But you can do it any time of the day anywhere. Right? If you're, if you have a job, you're working from nine to five, go home, eat dinner, no, from eight to 12, you can do it. You can, you can hustle and try to get distribution for an offer. Kill it, right? And there are people that make 300 bucks a day, $3,000 a day. $10,000 a day. $50,000 a day. You could do that and never have to do anything else ever in your business and be mega mega successful. You never take $1 out of your pocket. It's how I started my company. So I started making money. Right? I was an affiliate. I did this on a performance, still a performance marketer, but I was an affiliate of a few offers. And I got paid a commission when I was able to drive a sale, and I, luckily, I had a lot of relationships, publisher relationships, because I was working for other companies and I was buying media, I was buying traffic with those other companies.
But what happened was, I built up relationships with publishers that have audiences. So immediately, I can turn around and find an offer, and make a match, go get a deal.
And give it to a pub that I have a relationship with, who will promote it. And if it works, that makes money, right? I put a lot of years into that to build up those relationships. You don't have to have relationships like I do, you can start right, and I can show you how to do it. I can teach you how to do it. It's not that hard, really, isn't… it's hustle. You got to… you got to be willing to work hard and hustle, get to know what you're… what you're doing. You got to know what gets somebody to tick, right? When you're talking to people and you're building up your Dream 100. All you're doing when you're building your Dream 100 is ultimately laying out where on the internet are people that I want to get in front of hanging out. Who has that audience? That's it, you're making a list of people that you're going to call and target. They can be a TikTok guy, or it could be, you know, MSN, right? It could be ESPN if you want to go after them. Very different, very, very different. That's why they talk about earned media and paid media, earned versus paid. It's very different. Very different. Not gonna get into that today. But earned is free, it's not really free. Because it's your time, your time is the most valuable thing you have. It takes time to build up an audience by earning their trust, right? That's why, like, being able to buy a click, you don't need to have an audience, you can go and buy, click on Facebook, and get somebody to an offer. That's what it's all about. I mean, affiliate marketing is there. Let me just answer a few more questions.
How do affiliates get paid? Okay, so the business pays the affiliate commission, they pay whoever has the relationship with the advertiser, and the company that they're getting the sale for, will be paying the affiliate. So a ClickFunnels, if you're promoting their offer, will pay you when you get them to sell, whether you're getting them to sell on your own within your audience or you're giving somebody else your link, and they're getting the sale for you, you're getting paid for all those sales. Now, if you have a deal with some other companies that you're going to pay them when they get that sell, well, then that's a different relationship that has nothing to do with ClickFunnels. Right? That's… that has to do with you. And whatever do you cut with them is the deal, you call with them, ClickFunnels doesn't care. They just care about getting new, good customers, quality customers who are going to stay and want to be there for a very long time. That's it. So they want, right? I recommend when you do that, if you can, is you structure the deal. If you're an affiliate, and you're then finding third-party publishers to run your…your links from other offers, advertisers, if you can, I recommend that you structure the deal that you pay on collected revenue. And what that means is when ClickFunnels pays you, you then pay whatever you collected to that publisher. Now some publishers will be like, I ain't doing that, my… my relationships with you, if I'm going to run your offer, that is ClickFunnels, I can go to ClickFunnels and do that myself. People do that all the time. They may stay with you because of your relationship, and you do a lot more with them. But they may say when I drive a sale, I have costs that are associated with me, and I want to get paid. So whether you collect any revenue from your advertiser or not, it's not my business. You deal with that. And, you know, you could say, well, I'm not going to do that I'm not willing to take that risk, or you can, and then you take that risk. And there's been times I've seen people get in trouble because they've run a lot of traffic with publishers. Now they owe money to these publishers, and then the advertiser does not pay them. And you know, it could be millions of dollars. It's happened to me before in some cases, in some cases, with some deals. I'm not gonna get into it, but there's there was a time where I bought a ton of traffic. It was about a million and a half dollars. I didn't get paid in one month. Not a fun time. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no a little bit different, but I did not get paid. And I had all these, these partners that were waiting for money. Now I can, I could have not paid any of them, that would kill my relationship. So if I knew that a partner was driving good quality traffic, they've been doing it for 10 years for me, and I owe them money, I might do a deal with them and pay them anyway, which did paid some… some publishers, and I took a loss. But for me, the thought process was, I don't lose that relationship. And I will make that up down the road. Because I have a publisher who has a ton of traffic. So you got to… you got to weigh the risk-reward to determine if that makes sense or not. right for you and your business, you also have to be able to afford it. And thankfully, I was in a different position than if I just started my company just started a company I wouldn't be able to do that would have stopped. But thankfully, it didn't happen. Hopefully, it never happens again.
How do you find affiliate sites? It's a big conversation. A lot of ways. My suggestion is first to figure out who does your targeting, you got to know who it is you're looking for before you can figure out where you're going to go get traffic. Number one thing is finding out who is you're looking for, then you figure out where they're hanging out on the internet and where they're spending their time. And then you look to find those pubs, those publishers, who have that traffic have those eyeballs, you try to do deals on, you do it in search on Google, you can look at competitors, see where they're buying traffic, that's a good way to do it. Right, you see that a competitor is buying traffic in different places on the internet. And if they've been doing it for a long time, it's likely that it's working. And it's a good place for you to engage with that publisher. Right without knowing anything. That's why they have these things where you can.. you can pay for these services where you can see ads running. And you know, one thing, one strategy you can look at, you know what ads been running for a very long time, right, because if ads running for a long time, it's likely working, which gives you an edge, gives you an idea, like you can go and look at it, get an understanding what they're doing, what the hook is, how they're positioning it, you know, all those things can be really helpful without spending one penny, by just seeing what else is working right now today and applying it to your business.
How much can a beginner make in affiliate marketing? Well, guys, that's the thing, right? Like, the real answer is unlimited. I mean, they don't care if you're a 22-year-old kid or you're a 51-year-old father, who has kids getting ready to go to college, and you have a mortgage. They don't care, doesn't matter. Right? If the 22-year-old kid can get the job done, you can make millions, right? What's realistic, from the beginning, I put a number of like $1000 to $10,000 a month, you know, and it all just comes down to, you know how much time and energy want to put into it, what offers you're promoting, where you want to play? See, my One Affiliate Offer Challenge with the whole concept was you do exactly what I'm describing as an affiliate, but you use my survey as the front end. And what happens is you build up an audience on your list for free. And what's happening is then you're making money on the back end with the affiliate offer. And then, you have a list that you can market. And you can continue to be an affiliate where you market to your own list. Or you can try to start your own business with your own products or services. Communicating to that list. So, in that case, you would want to look for offers that are talking to the same people you want to talk to. Pretty cool. All right. That's it, I gotta go. I'd spent more time here than I should have. But I love talking about it. So many amazing things that you can do. But I just wanted to get on here and explain to you Dream 100 affiliate marketing. It's all performance marketing, right? We're all performance marketers. So hope this was helpful. Hope you guys learn this if you guys want to talk to me, you can text me now at 176361998. Subscribe to the channel, and put on your notifications. If you think somebody could use this video, share it with them so they can get valued helps if you'd like it or comment or share it for me to show up in this… this crazy world for me to build my audience, which is what I'm doing right like you guys being here. I have an audience you're watching me, I could be pushing an offer to you, um, not not doing anything I give all this information away for free. But I could, hypothetically, you putting an affiliate link below and telling you to go and sign up or something right, like as an example actually. Let's do this as a fun... I'm gonna put some affiliate links inside this episode for ClickFunnels. So why not? Right? What if this video takes off and it's… it's viral? And then you look, and you see the details? I'm going to take a few links, maybe a One Funnel Away Challenge, I'm going to take that affiliate link, that's mine, to take the Click Funnels trial and put it below. I'm going to take some of his books to get started. Anybody that watches videos, starts looking into the details, and they click on those links, and they buy something. I'm going to make a commission. Pretty cool, right? And what's so amazing about YouTube and podcasts is that they, they, they live forever, right? You go post something on Facebook, it's a post for the day, no one's going through your… your feed, and look what you did six months ago. Right? No one's looking at your stories six months ago, not many people, right? But YouTube, if you do something where you… you create some… some content that's valuable, and people like to watch this. If this is helpful, if this video becomes valuable to people, and they want to watch this, and you know, YouTube will start promoting it. They'll start promoting my video. Why did they do that? Well, circling back, YouTube is a publisher, right? YouTube is trying to create the best experience they possibly can with people coming to YouTube. So that is why so they can monetize the user.
Right? The longer you're on YouTube, the more videos you watch, and the more ads they can serve to you beforehand, maybe like a pre-roll, which is an ad that runs before the video starts a post-roll, the ad runs after the video starts during the video. Maybe there are ads on there, whatever. But it's just it. Same thing, right? YouTube is a publisher, right? Obviously, you can't call YouTube and ask them to run something on a performance basis. But what you can do is if you understand what their goals are, which is they just want to have awesome content. We're building their content for them. Like on TV there, there's… there are producers, and they're creating all these cool shows or whatever. And then they're put it's a whole to do it's Hollywood, right movies, what we're doing is user-generated content, the people that create the best content, most useful content for their audience, they're going to promote and push out into their network. And they're going to want those people to get those views. And I do it because they like you they're doing it because it's helpful for them. You've done a great job of creating awesome content that someone wants to watch. So they just keep showing it to the people. And the minute people are like, I don't want to watch this anymore, then they won't show it anymore. That's why there are some videos that were created 10 years ago that are still getting views. And there are affiliate links on there, where they're still getting paid 10 years later, that is… that happens. That truly happens. You want to start going and creating an audience. YouTube is a great place to do it. Great. Plus, it's not easy to build an audience, certainly organically. But it takes time, earned media, but it's worth it. You know, I'm doing it, I love it. I also love it because I just love helping people. You know, I'm trying to build up trust with my audience. So that I can create a relationship with you one day, if I.. if I roll something out where I want to sell something, hopefully, I've given you so much free content that you want to be with me, you… you want to give back, you feel like I helped you, you feel like I know something, right? The idea is I'm building up my authority by showing you things that I know, my knowledge, my expertise, that you're like, man, if Eric was gonna have a coaching program to teach me how to be an affiliate marketer or teach me how to do any sort of lead generation. Man, I want to be there. I want to be a part of that. Right? That would be a warm lead for me. Somebody that's been watching my videos for a long time. You know, you're a warm lead. And you're just waiting. Some of them. I'm telling you, people are asking me to do it. Some of you're begging me to do it. Right. And I'm going to do it one day, I promise you, I'll do it. But the point is, is that for now, I'm trying to help you, right, and I'm building up goodwill, exact, same thing. Right? So with YouTube, doing that exact same thing as we do. So when you show YouTube that you liked my video or you by pressing click that you like, it shows you to view like me, showing YouTube by sharing my videos shows them that you want other people to see it. Right? Those are pluses in column for YouTube. Oh, they like it. People like it. Let's show it to more people. Maybe show it to another 1000 people. Let's see what they do. Do they like it? Right. Another thing that they do is they look at is the video and watch it till the end? Right? How long are people staying on and watching? If they do stay on to the end? Do they watch other videos? Right? So if someone comes on my channel and watches a video, and they watch it from front to back. And then not only that, they watch three more videos of mine. That's going to tell YouTube that you liked my stuff. YouTube's going to try to find other people like you to then show my content. If someone starts searching for keywords around my channel, they're going to show me right over time, it takes time. And that's what happens and then starts to just snowball. You know, that's what I'm noticing it takes time. But once you finally crack that code, it's killer. So, not even all right, I gotta go. Appreciate guys. Thank you very much for being here. Hopefully, this is helpful. Any questions, fire away, and I'll talk soon.
